Rani's beauty secret is that she soaks herself with moisturizer. Rani who lost all the extra flab with "a balanced diet and junking sweets", lives on "home-cooked food - dal, roti, salad and soup." Fastfood and colas are a no-no, instead it's "nariyal pani, nimbu pani, jal jeera and water."

Rani is very close to her niece, Mayesha whom she lovingly calls 'Mishti' (which means "sweet" in Bengali).

When Rani won the Filmfare award for best supporting actress for 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.' Directors started taking her seriously and then she signed 22 films.

Rani is also an active stage performer. She starred in the successful Temptations 2004 concert with Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Rampal, Preity Zinta, and Priyanka Chopra.

Rani changed the English transliteration of her surname from Mukherjee to Mukerji several years ago. It was reported that she did this for numerological reasons. But she has claimed that numerology was not a concern, her name had been put down as Mukerji on her passport, and she wished to harmonize her name and her passport.

Rani is the first actor to win both the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress trophies in a single year (2005) at the Filmfare.

Two movies in which she appeared have been India's entry to the Academy Awards. "Paheli" (2005) was the official entry for the 2006 Oscars. "Hey Ram" (2000) was an earlier entry.

Rani appeared at the Closing Ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, as part of a performance showcasing Indian culture, on behalf of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, to be held in New Delhi.

Besides acting in films, Rani also does many charity appearances for noble causes. Her most noteworthy show was Temptations 2005 where she performed in New Delhi. The event provided the opportunity to raise funds for National Centre For Promotional of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), a leading disabled rights group. Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra were also amongst the many who contributed to this cause.

In 2006, Rani celebrated her birthday in a different style with the students of The Helen Keller Institute for the Deaf and Blind. She befriended the members of the institute, when she was enacting her role of a blind and deaf girl in the movie Black (2005). She thanked the students of the institute claiming she would not have been able to enact her performance in Black (2005) without them.

In 2005, Rani worked with the biggest production houses and banners: "Black", "Bunty aur Babli" and "The Rising". These three movies were amongst the top ten grosser of the year." Paheli", which received lukewarm response in the country, was India's official entry to the 2006 Oscars.

In February 2005, Filmfare Magazine published Rani's face among the "Ten Most Powerful Names of Bollywood", she is the only woman to receive such an honour. She was ranked eighth on the Power List in February 2006, configuring the highest ranking for a woman. Rani was also ranked number one in the Filmfare Top Ten Actresses' listing years, 2004 and 2005.

Rani has won 55 Awards to date.

Her film, "Paheli" (2005) got the honor to open the ninth Zimbabwe International Film Festival in Harare a year later.

Rani Mukerji topped the Top Ten Bollywood Actresses' Listing for a third year in a row (2005-2007)

The actress was honored by a largely foreign audience of 50,000 at the Casablanca Film Festival (2005) in Morocco where four of her movies were presented.

Mukherjee was a guest of honour at a state dinner to greet General Pervez Musharraf along with the Indian prime minister.
